1. What Is a Wall-Hung Bathroom Cabinet?

A wall-hung cabinet, also known as a wall-mounted, floating, or hanging cabinet, is fixed directly to the wall.

Unlike a conventional freestanding cabinet that sits on the bathroom floor, a wall-hung cabinet frees up valuable floor space, as it is mounted on the wall.

Since this cabinet is elevated off the floor, it creates an illusion of more space, contributing to a neat, minimalist look.

The mounting height of the cabinet can also be adjusted to suit the needs of multiple family members, making it easily accessible and more functional.

2. Are Wall-Hung Bathroom Cabinets Strong Enough to Hold Heavy Items?

The load-bearing capacity of a wall-hung bathroom cabinet is determined by several factors. These include the sturdiness of the wall, the type of installation bolts or screws used, and the material strength of the cabinet itself.

Anchor bolts are a better option than conventional screws for the installation of these cabinets.

Material strength also plays a crucial role in load-bearing capacity. For example, hardwood and metal cabinets can bear heavier loads compared to cabinets made of MDF, particleboard, chipboard, and plastic.

3. Can I Install a Wall-Hung Bathroom Cabinet on Any Type of Wall?

No.

A wall-hung bathroom cabinet requires a sturdy wall that can support its weight plus the weight of the stored items.

Solid brick walls and concrete/prefabricated walls are the most suitable types of walls for the installation of wall-hung cabinets. These walls can easily support heavy loads in the range of 200 to 500 lbs. if the cabinet is properly secured to the wall.

Drywall is essentially gypsum sandwiched between sheets of paper. Hence, a drywall can’t bear heavy loads on nails or anchor bolts.
