1. Are Freestanding Baths a Good Idea?

A freestanding bath works well as a focal point in a large bathroom, making a bold statement. The aesthetic appeal and design flexibility of a freestanding bath makes it a striking centrepiece in any bathroom.

In addition, the timeless appeal, fast installation, and adaptability to various bathroom layouts make freestanding baths a preferred choice among homeowners.

2. What Are Freestanding Baths Made Of?

Freestanding baths are made of acrylic, copper, natural stone, or cast iron.

Acrylic baths are made of heat-retaining Lucite acrylic, durable Twin Skin Fused Reinforced (TSFR) acrylic, or double-layered twin-skinned acrylic. Premium acrylic baths come with a 10-year guarantee. Freestanding baths made of acrylic are the most cost-effective options available.

Natural stone baths are made of marble, granite, or travertine. They retain heat for a long duration and easily last a lifetime. But they are the most expensive freestanding baths available.

Baths made of copper and cast iron are heavy, expensive, and come with an extended guarantee. They retain heat for a long time, too.

3. How Much Space Do You Need for a Freestanding Bath?

Measure the space accurately and ensure that your chosen model of freestanding bath will fit in.

Leave at least 6 inches (15 cm) of space on all sides. Ideally, you must have at least 2 to 3 feet of clearance on one side, allowing easy entry/exit.

4. How Far Should a Freestanding Tub Be from the Wall?

Your freestanding tub should be at least 6 inches (15 cm) from the wall. This will allow for easy cleaning all around and also prevent moisture from being trapped in the bathroom walls or tub.

5. Can You Have a Shower Over a Freestanding Bath?

Yes, you can have a shower over a freestanding bath.

However, the location of the bath is important. If it’s placed in the centre of the bathroom or too far away from any walls, installing a shower unit can be difficult.

A shower bath would be a great alternative, as it comes equipped with a built-in shower.
